SIBU: Wong Soon Lieng from SMK Tiong Hin is the only karate exponent from here to represent Malaysia in the 17th World Karate Championship in Lazio, Italy from June 23 to July 9.

Sibu Karate-do Association president So Teck Kee handed over the association’s colours to Soon Lieng yesterday.

Also present were the school’s senior assistant I (administration) Chong Chin San, co-curriculum senior assistant Tan Kok Aun and association chief instructor Sia Shong Ming.

Soon Lieng, 18, one of 13 participants from Sarawak in the championship, will take part in the -65kg category.

He represented Sarawak in the first Borneo International Karate-do Championship 2008, winning the Kumite and Kata under-18 events and placed second in the Kata -75kg category.
