Police raid nets 56 motorcycles



BINTULU: A team of 60 police personnel from here recovered 56 motorcycles believed to be stolen and arrested 21 suspects in a raid on suspected motorcycle thieves in Sg Asap Belaga yesterday.

Deputy police chief DSP Poniman Margiman who led the raiding party said the suspects were believed to be locals and the vehicles were found at Rumah Badang in the Sungei Asap area.

“The success of the operation is the result of public tip-off and investigations by police personnel from different sections including the Marine police, Narcotic Department, Crime Investigation Department and General Duty,” Poniman told reporters at the Police one-stop centre here yesterday.

He said 13 police vehicles were used in the operation between midnight and 1.30pm yesterday.

Prior to yesterday’s operation, in a related case on Monday, the police found six motorcycles which are also believed to be stolen at Tubau not far from Sungei Asap and arrested four suspects.

The seized motorcycles are now placed at the police one-stop centre pending further investigation.
