More firms expected to pay zakat online
Maybank promotes Maybank2e.net for online payment service
KUALA LUMPUR: Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) expects about 120 corporations to use its new online zakat payment service through Maybank2e.net in the next 12 months, its executive director and chief financial officer Datuk Aminuddin Md Desa said yesterday.
He said to date, more than 8,500 corporations are using Maybank2e.net, the country’s first Islamic Internet-based cash management financial portal, incorporating syariah-compliant features to facilitate Islamic banking activities.
“We expect an increase in the number of corporations participating in the zakat facilities,” he added, anticipating the number to increase by 25 per cent in the next one year.
According to him, there were about 21 million transactions worth RM515 billion made through Maybank2e.net since July 2007 till now.
Maybank2e.net offers facilities such as Payroll, EPF, SOCSO and zakat services, inter and intra bank payments via RENTAS, loan payments, account enquiries, cheque management, reconciliation, trade finance, custody services, merchant settlement reports, eDividend, eCollection and a comprehensive list of online management reports, he said.
Earlier yesterday, Maybank signed an agreement with three zakat bodies — the Wilayah Persekutuan Islamic Religious Council’s Zakat Collection Centre, the Selangor Zakat Board and the Negeri Sembilan Zakat Centre — for the online zakat payment service.
“Under this service agreement, business corporations and their employees in Wilayah Persekutuan, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan can now undertake online zakat payments with the Maybank2e.net solutions,” said Aminuddin.
“We expect that within this year the other nine to 10 zakat bodies will tie up with us.”
