LABUAN: Sabah Pekema Foundation president Rozman Datuk Isli yesterday said that the Education Carnival and Career Exhibition organised by Labuan Education Department here should be held every year.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the two-day carnival and exhibition on Sunday, he said that it was important to expose the students to careers of their choice, especially in the oil and gas industry here in Labuan.

“This is a good start and I hope a carnival like this will be held with more participation in the future both from the higher learning institutions and the students. A programme like this is vital for this country’s development. It will help our students determine their course of academic and career pursuit in the future as we want to produce excellent students to be quality human capital for the country’s progress,” he said.

Rozman, who is also member of Labuan Corporation Advisory Council, also acknowledged the role of the media in disseminating the information about the carnival to the public at large.

Meanwhile, Labuan Education Department director Mistirine Radin thanked Sabah Pekema Foundation for contributing RM50,000 to the Labuan Education Department last year for education development in the island.

“Some of the funds were used to organise this two-day Education Carnival and Career Exhibition. Our objective is to expose to the students here the options in academic courses and career.

“We do plan to make this event a yearly event,” she said, adding that the focus of the carnival was to encourage students to look for a career in oil and gas industry, especially here on the island.

Higher learning institutions, including those from outside Labuan, took part in the carnival.

Also present was the committee member of Sabah Pekema Foundation, Hjh Fauziah Datuk Mohd Din.
