Body of last missing Brunei student found

TAWAU: The body of the last missing student, Mohd Azmi hj Yacob, 25, was found by Fire and Rescue Department personnel at 11.29am yesterday.

Mohd Azmi was one of the four University Brunei Darussalam undergraduates swept by sudden rise of water while he and a group of students were on a trip to see rare columnar basalt or locally known as ‘batu susun’ at Balung River, Mile 24 Apas Road on Friday.

Another victim Mohd Azizan Mohd Sidek, 22, was found drowned on Saturday about 700 meters from the scene at 3.45pm by a Fire and Rescue Department search team with the help from villagers.

On Friday the department received a distress call at 4.51pm and the search and rescue operation started at 5.30pm.

The first victim Mohd Jamaludin Hj Shah, 24, was found at 6.37pm and the second victim, Siti Lyana, 22 was found at 6.50pm.

Siti who was in a state of coma, had recovered at the Tawau General Hospital on Saturday and had gone back to Brunei.
