Wife in Kalimantan reports husband for raping daughters

TENGGARONG, EAST KALIMANTAN: A mother of two on Thursday reported her 51-year-old husband to police for having allegedly repeatedly molested and raped his own two daughters, aged 17 and 8.

The wife, identified only as W.F., reported her husband Maryono from Senipah, in the Samboja subdistrict of Kutai Kartanegara, to the police post in neighboring Handil Baru.

“Their father last did it in a hut in a field last weekend. They were used [raped] one after the other. This is really immoral,” a tearful W.F. said while filing a report with police.

She said she became suspicious by her youngest daughter’s constant queries to her about when the parents planned to divorce. After repeated attempts to persuade her mother, the 8-year-old finally told her that she and her sister had been repeatedly molested by their father.

“I want my husband to be punished as severely as possible,” W.F. said. “This is an inhuman act. How can he molest his own daughters? How can he destroy their future like that?”

Kutai Kartanegara district police spokesman Adj. Comr. Suwarno said that based on the explanation of the youngest daughter, the molestations were carried out under threat and always took place when the mother was not at home.

“It had been going on for months and they were always threatened against telling anyone else, including their mother. Maryono is now detained at the Handil [Baru] police station following the wife’s report,” Suwarno said.

Maryono, he added, had already admitted to the crimes and both children underwent medical examinations as part of evidence to be used against their father.

Maryono could face up to 15 years in prison under the 2002 Law on Child Protection.
