Back-to-school shopping for hardcore poor students
KOTA KINABALU: Baitulmal Sabah yesterday brought hardcore poor students from SK Babagon Penampang for back-to-school shopping.
The Islamic body took 21 pupils to 1Borneo to buy their schooling necessities.
“We have helped students with financial difficulties in various programmes before but this is the first time we did a back-to-school activities for them,” said Baitulmal Sabah deputy managing director Ratnawati Osman.
She said they spent RM200 for each student, buying them school uniforms, bags, stationery and shoes before treating them to lunch.
According to her, 27 officers and teachers were mobilized to accompany the students in their shopping trip to ensure every child was catered to and got to buy what they liked and in the right size.
Following the encouraging response, she said Baitulmal was planning to expand the programme to benefit more students from others schools outside Kota Kinabalu.
