Ferry fare discount not for private vehicles
LABUAN: The chief executive officer of Labuan Ferry Corporation (LFC) Sdn Bhd, Shamsul Sahari, announced yesterday that they would implement the 50 percent discount on their ferry fares from yesterday.
He said the discount is for passengers and commercial vehicles registered with the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) only, and not for private registered vehicles.
“Previously, the passenger fare for a one-way trip from Labuan to Menumbok or vice versa is RM5. Now the fare is only RM2.50.
“For commercial vehicles, they would need to pay the full rate first at our ticketing counters and then claim the 50 percent rebate at Labuan Corporation (LC) later by showing their payment receipts,” he said.
Meanwhile, David Wong, the spokesperson for Juta Bonus Sdn Bhd, said owners of commercial vehicles could make claims this month.
“Presently, we are making adjustment to incorporate the 50 percent discount in the fare on our ferry. However, we would advise our customers to keep the payment receipts issued by us safely and once everything is settled they can make their claims for discount, or we could assist them to get their claims,” he said.
For ferry express and speedboat travel, passengers have already started enjoying the 50 percent discount beginning on January 1 this year.
The spokesperson for Labuan Development Authority Holding (LDAH), a subsidiary of LC, informed that the ferry express and speedboat owners can make their claims for the subsidy from them.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for LC ,when contacted, disclosed that LC have held a meeting with both LFC Sdn Bhd and Juta Bonus Sdn Bhd yesterday to discuss matters relating to claim procedures.
“LFC have confirmed with us that they will implement the 50 percent discount on their ferry fare starting today. However, Juta Bonus Sdn. Bhd have yet to give us their confirmation, but we would want them to do so as soon as possible,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson informed further that commercial vehicle owners have to pay the ferry fare at full amount first and make a claim for the 50 percent fare discount from LC later.
“Earlier, it was arranged for all claims to be made at LDAH, however for the RORO ferry, the claim must now be made at LC.
“Passengers/owners are also reminded that the half price discount is not applicable to personal or private vehicles including commercial vehicles those are not registered under CVLB,” said the spokesperson.
