KOTA KINABALU: Another crocodile was spotted in a drain and this time at a housing estate in Kepayan Ridge on Wednesday.
But the Fire and Rescue Services Department caught the reptile, about two metres long, around 12.40pm yesterday.
It was handed over to the Wildlife Department.
It is believed that the crocodile is the same reptile that was first spotted in a monsoon drain near the Sabah Museum on December 24, 2011.
The crocodile was initially spotted in the drain in Kepayan Ridge around 8pm on Wednesday.
According to a resident, Azman Jaludin, 17, he was sitting with some friends near the area when they heard a loud splash in the drain.
He initially thought the animal was a biawak (monitor lizard) but as we went closer, we were shocked to find a crocodile instead,?he said, adding that they then informed the Fire and Rescue Department.
The department’s public relation officer Senior Assistant Superintendent Mohd Affendy Ramin said the department received information from the public around 11am yesterday and a team was sent to the scene.
He managed to spot the crocodile in a nearby drain, not far from where it was first spotted on Wednesday night, and captured it.
The crocodile has been handed over to the Wildlife Department for further action,?he said.
