King accorded state welcome in Indonesia
JAKARTA: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, who is on a state visit to Indonesia, was accorded a state welcome by the Indonesian government at a ceremonial military parade at the Istana Merdeka.
Tuanku Abdul Halim and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah were received by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his wife, Ibu Ani Yudhoyono, at the palace.
At a dais, Tuanku Abdul Halim took the salute.
The national anthems of Malaysia and Indonesia were played and a 21-gun salute was fired.
The Istana Merdeka houses the office of the Indonesian president.
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong then inspected a guard-of-honour and saluted the national flags of Indonesia and Malaysia.
After the parade, the Indonesian cabinet members and senior government officers were introduced to Tuanku Abdul Halim and Tuanku Hajah Haminah after members of the Malaysian entourage were introduced to President Susilo and Ibu Ani.
Tuanku Abdul Halim, Tuanku Hajah Haminah, President Susilo and Ibu Ani then proceeded to the Credentials Hall for a photography session.
They then held a tête-à-tête at the Jepara Hall for about 40 minutes, after which Tuanku Abdul Halim and Tuanku Hajah Haminah left for the Shangri-La Hotel where the royal couple is staying in Jakarta. — Bernama
