KUCHING: Alert security guards at Kuching Waterfront foiled a theft attempt after stumbling upon two men stealing beer from a cafe early yesterday. The two guards were on patrol around 1.30am when they heard loud noises coming from a cafe located along the waterfront area, and immediately went to investigate.
Noticing that the noise was coming from the cafe, which had closed a few hours earlier, the guards went closer to check and stumbled upon two men exiting from the front door, which had been forced open.
The men, each carrying two crates of beer, left them on the ground and fled on foot as the guards gave chase.
They managed to make it into a dark-coloured Perodua Kancil car and sped away from the scene.
The guards went back to the scene and recovered the beer before lodging a police report of the attempted theft.
In an unrelated incident, a middle-aged motorcyclist sustained body and facial injuries when he fell off his machine in a robbery on Monday.
The 51-year-old victim from Chawan Road was riding his bike along Jalan Peace around 11am when two men on another motorcycle sped past him and snatched his gold necklace.
The act caused him to lose control of the bike and crash onto the road, but it was not the end of his ordeal as the duo stopped and relieved the victim of his wallet as well before speeding away. The wallet contained about RM120 cash.
He sought medical treatment following the incident before lodging a police report. Police are investigating.
