Police cripple drug syndicate, seize Syabu and Ecstasy

ALOR SETAR: Police have crippled a drug trafficking syndicate with the detention of a man and seizure of Syabu and Ecstasy pills worth RM80,000 in a raid in Jalan Putra on Friday.Kedah deputy police chief Datuk Asri Yusof said the 252 grammes of Syabu in 65 packets and 55 Ecstasy pills were found in the house.

“Police also seized a Nissan Sentra, cash amounting RM44,122, a laptop computer and two mobile phones.

“We are looking for another suspect believed to be a syndicate member and a friend of the man detained,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

The drug syndicate had been active at entertainment joints in the city since the middle of last year.

Asri said the man was detained at home in the presence of his father and that the items seized were found in a bedroom.

“Syabu is the most expensive drug and can fetch RM230,000 per kg while one packet seized is valued at RM1,200,” he added.

The 28 year-old man was detained under Section 39B of Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

In another raid on Friday, police detained two men and seized 50 grammes of heroin at Alor Setar Selatan toll plaza. — Bernama
