MIRI: The driver of a cargo lorry was seriously injured in a single vehicle accident along the Pujut-Miri Road yesterday morning. The incident occurred at about 3am, when the driver in his 30s rammed the vehicle into a tree along the central road divider.
This caused both the lorry’s front tyres to come off and severe damage to the cabin, with the roof collapsing partially and pinning the driver to his seat.
A team from the Miri Fire and Rescue Department arrived at the scene to extricate the victim from the mangled wreck.
The driver, who suffered serious injuries to his body and head, was later brought to Miri Hospital for treatment.
Miri traffic officer Chief Inspector Ahmad Fauzi Sabri, when contacted, said during the accident it had been raining and the road was slippery.
He said traffic personnel were assigned to control the heavy traffic flow from the Pujut flyover to Miri yesterday morning due to the accident.
Workers from the cargo company were later seen at the scene with smaller trucks to remove cargo from the wrecked vehicle.
