Bogus insurance agents targeting housewives

BINTULU: Two men and a woman, believed to be locals, have been posing as insurance agents to scam housewives here.The Commercial Crimes Investigation Department here warned that two housewives reported being scammed by the trio last week.

The first victim, in her 40s, was approached by the three suspects at the town centre.

They identified themselves as an agents for a local insurance company and persuaded the woman that her husband had a policy with them.

In order to claim the insurance, she was told she had to place a deposit.

The suspects, who were driving a Proton Waja, then accompanied her to a local bank where she withdrew about RM50,000 from her account.

The housewife then gave the money to the suspects and told to wait at the bank for a moment, while the trio went back to their office to get a receipt and several documents to enable her to claim the insurance policy.

After waiting for quite sometime, she suddenly realised that she had been cheated.

The second case, believed to be carried out by the same group, involved a housewife in her 50s and a similar modus operandi.

The victim lost a gold necklace worth RM1,500 to the trio, who were driving a Perodua Kenari.

Both cases are under police investigation.
