Freddy to represent Malaysia in World Finals

KUCHING: Sarawak’s International karter Freddy Lawan will represent Malaysia in the Rotax Max World Finals at the Ghibli Raceway in Egypt from Dec 5 to 12.

He was selected after winning the Asia Zone Rotax Max Challenge Championship last weekend.

“It’s very exciting for me to compete at such a high level and I’m proud to be selected. I will try my best to prove myself,” he said.

Freddy is looking forward to the race in great anticipation and has drawn up a training programme for this most important race for karters the world over.

As part of the buildup, he will compete in events such as the Asian Karting Open Championship (AKOC).

Over 15,000 drivers from more than 55 nations competed during the year for a place in the Rotax Max World Finals. And from the pool of drivers, only 216 have been selected.

According to BRP Powertrain Rotax Max Challenge organiser Robert Gumbenberger, the World Finals is a prestigious event. “It is the Olympic Games of karting,” he said.

The Rotax MAX Challenge (RMC) is the biggest kart race series in the world. Every year, authorised BRP-Powertrain Gmbh Company KG kart distributors organise national or international competitions around the world. The best RMC drivers qualify for the annual Grand Final.

At the early age of 12, drivers can start their racing career in the RMC that offers five race categories plus one nation’s cup.
