BETONG: The Barisan Nasional (BN) government implements development projects to benefit the people – not only in towns but rural areas as well.

Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas said all development like infrastructure aim to increase a family’s income.

“Those living in rural areas will be able to enjoy the facilities and development in town with a good road network,” he said at a meet-the-people session and ground breaking ceremony at Rumah Lanyau, Lisum, Ulu Layar Betong on Sunday.

The four kilometre road will connect several nearby longhouses from Rumah Lanyau and areas near Ulu Layar, Rumah Lanyau Lisum, Rumah Bachat Ng Mara, Rumah Jabu Ng Mutok, Rumah Alin Beggumbang, Rumah Janggat Sungai Langit, Rumah Jonathan Kian Sungai Kepayang, Rumah Kechendai Jaloh, Rumah Kudang Selangking, Rumah Empalin Jelang, Rumah Wilson Dunggat Melanjan, Rumah Entinggi Mutok and Rumah Aji Tabau.

Meanwhile Uggah, who is also Betong MP, reminded parents to put in effort to increase their children’s academic excellence, which will enable them to further their studies to a higher level.

“Good education centres like Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM), Kolej Komuniti and others in Betong were built for youths to pursue studies. Therefore parents are urged to help their children grab the opportunities given,” he said.

Apart from that, Uggah advised the rakyat to increase their economic level by planting as much rubber trees, pepper and others as possible. Bukit Saban assemblyman Robert Lawson also advised the people to support the BN government for continuous development. Also present was Uggah’s political secretary Dr Richard Rapu.

Earlier Uggah announced an allocation of RM350,000 for building a main road, RM300,000 for 21 ‘bilek’ and rubber engines for Rumah Lanyau, and RM3,000 for 11 longhouse village development and security community (JKKK).
