KUNDASANG: The Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (Mosti) is strategising the direction of the ministry’s key performance indicators (KPI) with a view to helping the country achieve its national vision and mission.

Its Minister Datuk Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili said the thrusts of the ministry’s strategic plan of action for 2010 to 2020 would be the basis for its agencies and clusters to plan for the Tenth Malaysia Plan.

He said that Mosti was the key to the way forward for Malaysia in the next five to 10 years and post 2020.

“Since a month ago, the ministry has started a process of reviewing its mission statement and way forward.

“We are also refining the KPIs for the ministry and the 28 agencies under it. Coming up with the KPIs for the ministry is a huge challenge for us because there are 28 departments and agencies under Mosti,” he said in his address at the opening of a three-day Mosti retreat at the Kinabalu Park, here yesterday.

Ongkili led a team of 85 ministry senior officials, chief executive officers and heads of department of agencies under Mosti for the retreat which included a brainstorming and teambuilding session.

He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had told him that innovation and creativity was central to Najib’s 1Malaysia agenda.

Ongkili told the Mosti departments and agencies to reflect on their respective roles in realising the ministry’s vision to create knowledge, generate wealth and improve societal wellbeing.

“We do not only fund scientific research and promote innovation but we must also transform the innovation, get them into the market place and ensure they ultimately touch people’s lives,” he added.

On the retreat, Ongkili said it was to encourage team spirit and interaction among members of the Mosti family.

“I hope all of us will understand and appreciate as well as internalise the ministry’s One Mosti vision,” he said.

Later, Ongkili flagged off 60 participants who attempted to conquer the 4,095 metre-high Mount Kinabalu as part of the team building programme.
