Sabah to get RM18 mln for sports facilities

TAWAU: Sabah will get RM18 million to build 126 multipurpose sports arena in the state, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob said yesterday.

“Sabah is allocated with more sports arena compared to other states due to its size,” he told reporters after launching the state-level sports tour in the state.

Ismail announced in June last year that the ministry would allocate RM120 million to build sports arena in every constituency in the country.

“With up to two sports arena in each state constituency, the ministry is targeting at least 50 per cent of the Malaysian population to be active in sports by the year 2020,” he said, adding that all the facilities are under construction.
