KUCHING: Progression Computer Dict Sdn Bhd fulfilled its corporate social responsibility (CSR) by donating computer dictionaries and cash to Chinese medium primary aided and secondary private schools here.
All Chinese medium primary schools in the Kuching and Samarahan divisions each received an Apple Tree computer dictionary.
Five Chinese medium secondary private schools here also received a computer dictionary each along with a cash donation of RM1,000 each during a simple handing-over ceremony witnessed by Deputy Works Minister Datuk Yong Khoon Seng at the One TJ Shopping Complex yesterday.
In his short speech, Yong said he believed the learning tools which feature accurate translations of Bahasa Malaysia, English and Chinese would be of great help to students.
While commending the generosity of the company, Yong hoped the company would offer a reasonable price to enable students, especially the needy, to own a unit.
He also called on the company to donate computers to needy families in helping to ensure their children would not be left behind.
Yong, who is also Stampin MP, called on other business entities to emulate such initiatives to help Chinese medium primary aided and secondary private schools.
“The Chinese primary schools in the two divisions face acute shortage of funds for infrastructure developments while the five Chinese secondary schools have been heavily depending on the donations from the Chinese community,” said Yong.
He was thus pleased to note the effort of Progression Computer Dict Sdn Bhd to support Chinese education in spite of the global economic slow down.
During the ceremony, Progression Computer Dict Sdn Bhd managing director Ong CM symbolically handed over the computer dictionaries to Federation of Boards of Management of Kuching and Samarahan Divisions Chinese Primary Schools president Liu Thian Leong and Kuching Chung Hua Middle School No.1, 3 and 4 Board of Management secretary general Tan Hua Min.
One TJ Shopping Complex also donated some food vouchers to Chung Hua Primary School No.2.
Among those present were Progression Computer Dict Sdn Bhd executive director Fanny Liow and Kuching and Samarahan Divisions Chinese Primary School Teachers Association chairman Then Kim Bun.
