KUALA LUMPUR: Parents who choose an unregistered bus or a private unregistered vehicle to ferry their children to school are responsible for their decision and cannot blame the government or any other authority if anything were to happen to their children.
The chairman of the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB), Datuk Markiman Kobiran, said parents with the cooperation of resident associations and non-governmental organisations should take the initiative to ensure the safety of their children as well as strive to identify illegal school bus operators in their area and urge such operators to register their vehicles.
“If the vehicles pass the tests of Puspakom (the government appointed company to do vehicle inspections), the process of getting a permit is easy. We approved 60 permits in one go for buses in Bukit Jelutong last year,” he told Bernama here yesterday.
He said school vehicles that had permits received various advantages from the government like paying just RM2 for annual road tax and the school children had insurance coverage.
“The bus operators also get subsidised diesel and also could easily get permits for private trips on weekends,” he added.
