‘Suggest development courses to elected reps’

KUCHING: Village level leaders need not fear suggesting youth development courses to elected representatives in their respective areas.

Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said village leaders should not just depend on the government to prepare courses or programmes for youths.

“We need to have the initiative to hold various development programmes for youths, especially unemployed university graduates and school leavers,” he said.

“Apart from that, we can also invite the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) and other agencies to hold seminars or talks for them,” added Junaidi at the launching of the Gerakan Daya Wawasan (GDW) Kampung Demak Baru Fasa 2 yesterday.

He said through this method, youths will receive the help they need to increase their knowledge and be aware of the aid and job opportunities available to them.

Junaidi, who is also Santu-bong member of parliament, said the government has prepared various funds to aid youth development.

“This is why each village needs to hold courses or programmes for them to tell them of the aid and fund available to them,” he said.

Junaidi said parents should motivate their school-going children so that they will continue to further their studies.

“There is no other way to obtain a brighter future aside from studying. Now, students need to obtain qualifications from universities to have a brighter future,” he said.
