Bumiputera entrepreneurs urged to be committed to their choices of trade if they want to achieve success
BINTULU: Bumiputera entrepreneurs are urged to be committed to their choices of trade if they want to achieve success and be on a par with their non-Bumi counterparts.
Excellence should become a part of their culture if they want to achieve success, the president of Persatuan Usahawan and Usahanita Bumiputra Sarawak Datuk Abang Zaibidin Abang Zainal told them at the soft opening of PUBS Bintulu branch at the civic centre here on Wednesday.
He said that Bumi entrepreneurs could also succeed on condition that they really work hard and also be able to function as a group.
“The business world has no limit and the competition is fierce, and only the capable and the brave will come out successful,” he said.
The association has eight branches statewide namely Kuching, Serian, Lundu, Sri Aman, Betong/Pusa, Miri, Limbang, Lawas, and the latest one Bintulu, with about 3,000 members.
Zaibidin went on to say: “After 45 years of independence Sarawak has gone through many changes and development with better facilities and infrastructure in place that should make it easier for Bumi entrepreneurs to operate.”
To the new members here, he urged them to think out of the box and emulate the examples of Sri Aman branch, which is engaged in the rearing of catfish with a loan of RM750,000 from the government. The project involves 25 families who are all members of the association, taking advantage of the high demand for catfish in the local and international markets.
He also reminded members not to be too dependent on the government subsidies.
He said that the association has a company called Nikmat Teroka Sdn Bhd, whose sole task is to buy members’ produce and products.
The company would help to export the products/produce to local and international markets, which would thus lessen the marketing worries of the members.
Bintulu district officer Bujang Budin, representing Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, officiated at the opening of the PUBS Bintulu branch office, and among those present were the branch president Corina Bulan, and deputy Resident Sirai Daha.
