SEBUYAU: Sarawakians have been told to beware of the opposition’s tricks which, according to Second Minister of Planning and Resource Management Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, are not for the overall betterment of the state.
Tengah yesterday said voices of the opposition about forming a new government could still be heard despite the landslide victory of the state Barisan Nasional (BN) during last March 8 election polls.
“They behave as if they have more power than the voters who have given the mandate to rule to BN. Their sole intention is to gain power.
“Their irresponsible acts have negative impact. Foreign investors will wait and see what would happen next,” he said during an Aidilfitri gathering at Dewan Masyarakat Sebuyau.
Tengah, who is also Minister of Public Utilities, pointed out that due to capable leadership and political stability the country had averted severe financial problems amidst the economic crisis affecting the United States and Europe.
“It is thus pertinent that we stay united to preserve such stability,” he said, adding that the opposition did not bother about the importance of uniting the people.
He also pledged that there would be more development for Sebuyau constituency.
“One of them is the elevation of Sebuyau bazaar. Besides that, initiatives will be looked into to promote the agriculture and fishery sectors,” he said.
“Sarawak has also bid for federal funds to build a bridge across Batang Sadong to boost economic activities in Sebuyau.”
State Legislative Assembly speaker Dato Sri Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar, Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Bumiputera Entrepreneur Development) Mohd Naroden Majais, Sebuyau assemblyman Julaihi Narawi and wife Sadiah Buji, Pantai Damai assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi and Saribas assemblyman Dr Wahbi Junaidi were among those present at the function.
