Bintulu sewage treatment plants capable of serving some 25,000 operational once piping in place

The federal government-funded project, located along the newly completed north-south road would benefit residents of many housing estates in the area, who presently have to depend on temporary oxidation ponds.

“We are going to close five more temporary oxidation ponds soon. We have closed three, two of which are in Tanjung Batu and one in Kidurong,” said Bintulu Development Authority general manager Mohidin Ishak when met by reporters here after inspecting the road project yesterday.

“We still have some land near the existing plant, and if necessary, we will construct a series of treatment plants once the (present) treatment plants are completed.”

On another subject, Mohidin said that BDA, with funds from the federal and state governments, would start implementing more development projects in places under its jurisdiction, such as roads, recreational parks, gardens and commer-cial centres until 2020.

This, he added, was in line with the implementation of Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE).

“We must have all the physical facilities in place first before we can talk about wanting to become a city by 2020,” he said. He also said there was a plan to build a bridge over Kemena River to the Jepak area.

“However, the implementation depends on the availability of funds.”
