Firecrackers: Trader claims trial to charge
KOTA KINABALU: A trader was charged at the magistrates’ court here yesterday with possessing and selling several types of fire crackers.
James Nordin, 49, was accused of committing the offence at 8.30pm on Sept 19 at Kedai Runcit JN Enterprise in Kampung Bunga Raya, Kepayan.
However, no plea was taken from the accused who was charged under Section 8 of the Explosive Act 1957 which provides a jail term of up to seven years, a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or both on conviction.
Lower court registrar Richard Isidore reserved Oct 30 for re-mention of the case.
Meanwhile, three men faced separate theft charges but no plea was taken from them.
Zurainol Abdul Rahman, 35, was charged with stealing four packets of Nescafe and a packet of player altogether worth RM85.15 from CKS on Jalan Bundusan, Penampang at 1.30pm on Sept 29.
The court set Oct 22 for re-mention of Zurainol’s case.
Abdul Said Hassan, 27, was accused of stealing personal documents, RM120 and a handphone worth a total of RM1,020 belonging to Chea Li Fung, 24.
He allegedly committed the offence together with two other accomplices who are still at large at Pusat Hiburan Shenanigan in Hyatt Hotel at 11.30pm on Sept 24.
Said’s case will be mentioned on Oct 30.
Richard also fixed Oct 22 for remention of the case of Almusin Nasib, 19, who was charged with attempting to steal coins from an Isuzu vehicle at 12.20pm on Sept 26.
Zurainol and Said were charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code which provides a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine on conviction while Almusin was charged under Section 379/511 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to three and a half years, a fine or both on conviction.
Chief Inspector Lim Swee Beng prosecuted.
