Policeman charged with soliciting, accepting bribes

JOHOR BAHARU: A policeman pleaded not guilty to three counts of soliciting and receiving bribes in the Sessions Court, here yesterday.

On the first charge, Lance Corporal Mohd Isa Selamat, 43, is alleged to have solicited RM2,500 from a trader, Omar Ismail as an inducement not to take action against him for a drug offence behind the Tampoi Health Clinic at 9pm on June 25.

On the second and third counts, Mohd Isa is alleged to have received RM2,000 from Omar at the same place and time and another RM500 at a restaurant at Bandar Baru Uda at 11.20pm on June 30.

He faces up to 20 years’ imprisonment and fines of up to five times the amount of the bribes or RM10,000 for each offence.

Judge Mohd Fauzi Mohd Nasir fixed bail at RM3,000 bail and set Oct 20 for mention.

Deputy prosecutor Josiendra Abu Senin was prosecuting while Mohd Isa was not represented.
