MAAU completes investigation on sexual harassment case

KUALA LUMPUR: President of the Malaysian Amateur Athletics Union (MAAU) Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim is expected to announce the outcome of an investigation by a disciplinary committee on an alleged sexual harassment of a female liaison officer by an MAAU official. The female liaison official who accompanied national athletes to the Taiwan Athletics Open in May had alleged that an MAAU official had tried to sexually harass her. The MAAU deputy president Karim Ibrahim said the discipline committee had concluded their findings by the stipulated date (yesterday) and their report would be tabled at a special meeting tomorrow.

“The committee’s report, comprising their findings and recommendations, will be tabled and discussed during the meeting before the president makes a decision,” Karim told Bernama yesterday.

Karim added that though the discipline committee headed by Prof Datuk W Y Chin had finalised their report, it was not handed over to the MAAU.

“The report will be submitted to the MAAU Executive Board during the meeting on Thursday,” he said.

The discipline committee that included Negeri Sembilan AAA president Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad, MAAU Women’s Committee chairman Datuk Paduka Mumtaz Jaafar, Penang AAA secretary S. Govindarajoo and lawyer Thalia Rahaina Abdul Latif, was set up on Sept 2.

In a complaint letter to the MAAU dated June 23, six Malaysian athletes who competed in the Taiwan Open had alleged that an official had invited the female liaison official to his room, presumably to talk on team matters but instead tried to hug her.

Among those who signed the letter were Roslinda Samsu, Norjannah Hafiszah Jamaluddin, Tan Song Hwa, Yap Jen Tzan, Nurul Sarah Abdul Kadir and Siti Fatimah Mohamad.

The MAAU subsequently appointed Mumtaz to head a team to conduct an internal investigation and the findings were later submitted to the discipline committee.

Why should his name be witheld by authority through his lawyer? What is the purpose of that? Why not let him as popular as DSAI in his sodomised case?
Let the whole world know!!!!!!

My conclusion is; - to give him more rooms to carry on such behaviour with different tactics in the future.
