Rubber forest plantation augurs well for Sabah’s reforestation efforts

KOTA KINABALU: Rubber forest plantation in a Forest Management Unit (FMU) in Sabah augurs well for the states reforestation efforts and is in line with the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) plan.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said such a project would provide job opportunities for the locals as well as contribute to the reforestation efforts in an FMU.

“The state government welcomes cooperation, specifically in reforestation of an FMU, which meets

the state governments objectives of meeting the FMU requirements for sustainable forest management and achieving the vision of developing the rural areas under the SDC plan.”

Musa was speaking at an agreement and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) signing between Bornion Timber Sdn Bhd, China-based Guangdong Guangken Rubber Group Company Limited, Universiti Malaysia Sabah and the Malaysian Rubber Board.

“Such a project bodes well for the people in a particular vicinity as the development of the rubber forest plantation can help uplift their standard of living, which is also in line with the governments poverty-eradication programme,” he added.
