Youths find body floating in stream near their village
SANTUBONG: A group of youths from Kampung Santubong cancelled their plans to have a good time in a nearby stream after finding a body floating in it yesterday.
The group noticed a suspicious-looking object in a small stream at the foot of Mount Santubong about 12.30pm.
Their curiosity turned to horror when, on taking a closer look, they found that it was the body of a man facing downwards.
The discovery prompted them to call the authorities and alert nearby villagers.
Soon police from the Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) /Forensic Unit arrived at the scene along with several investigation officers.
Investigations were carried out straightaway.
Several police personnel were also seen scouring the area for clues.
The man identified as Jereco Jinnoh, 38, from Tebedu, Serian had been residing at Taman Malihah before his death.
It was yet to be confirmed whether he worked near the Santubong area.
CSI did a check on the well-dressed body which showed no trace of a struggle or injury.
The case has been classified as sudden death after police ruled out foul play.
Police found a bottle containing a colourless liquid near the body though it was not certain what it was.
A pair of slippers also found might belong to the deceased.
About 20 metres from the scene, police found a dark blue Honda EX5 parked near the main road, believed to belong to the deceased.
In the basket of the motorbike, police found a bag containing the victim’s personal documents, a bunch of keys and other items. The body was retrieved and sent to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for a post mortem.
Head of Kuching District Police, ACP Wong Wai Loong when contacted confirmed the case.
