Data on Azilah’s calls, SMS accurate, High Court told

SHAH ALAM: The data on calls and short messaging service (SMS) between Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri and political analyst Abdul Razak Abdullah Baginda were accurate, the High Court here was told yesterday.

So too, was the data on Azilah’s presence at the site of the murder of Mongolian woman Altantuya Shaariibu as there was no sign of tampering.

Deputy public prosecutor Manoj Kurup submitted that although there were errors on the order of location between the location area code (LAC) and the Cell ID”, the data was correct and consistent, as was recorded in the ‘switch’.

He said Celcom’s general manager for core operations network Nik Kamarudin Nik Ka had never stated that Azilah’s call transactions and raw data were erroneous, but said there were several data from another ‘switch’ which was not included in both the documents.

“It is respectfully submitted that no issue of tempering or altering of data arises in this case. Four different witnesses testified as to the creation, production, arrangement and validation of these logs.

“There is an inherent logic in the call logs which would not be present, had there been any tempering, altering or addition of data,” he said.

He added that the defence had not only alleged there was a collaboration among four Celcom officers to destroy the evidence, but also involve another telecommunication company, Maxis.

Manoj also submitted that there was a full revelation by the prosecution of all materials relevant to the call log and so much information was gathered from various departments of Celcom and the net result of all these were that all the data and values were consistent.

“Even if there was a mistake in scripting by Syed Mustaqim Syed Yusoff (Celcom officer), that mistake was rectified and that rectification served to bolster the point that there was no error in the data itself.

“Any mistake was with respect to how that data was retrieved, without ever compromising the integrity of the data itself.

“To top it all, Haizal Hambali (also a Celcom officer) took a ‘test drive’ to further confirm that these values and data in the call logs were accurate and reliable.

“It is submitted that the call logs ought to be received by this court. They do not suffer from any of the infirmities alleged by the defence,” he said.

Hearing continues on Tuesday.
