KOTA BAHARU: The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) has suggested that all Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties be dissolved and a new BN party be formed.
PPP president Datuk M. Kayveas (pictured right) said the proposal by PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat that PAS and Umno be dissolved was a logical proposal but it needed to be extended to all BN component parties.
“In Malaysia, there is no need to have several parties, just have a BN party, and Pakatan Rakyat, and PPP agrees with the proposal by ‘Tok Guru’ (Nik Aziz),” he told reporters yesterday.
Three days ago in Machang, Nik Aziz, who is also Kelantan Menteri Besar, proposed that PAS and Umno be dissolved and a single party based on Islam be formed.
Kayveas said the PAS-Umno merger would only solve Malay unity and the issue of Islam but a BN party would resolve inter-racial and inter-religious issues, as well.
On DAP’s dissatisfaction with PAS’ proposal for Umno and PAS to dissolve and form one party, Kayveas suggested that the DAP merge with Parti Keadilan Rakyat and form a new party.
