SIBU: SMK Methodist won three titles in the Premier Schools Sports Carnival, Sarawak Zone, here yesterday morning.
The school will represent the state in the nationwide Premier Schools Sports Carnival in Perlis on August 20.
In the women’s hockey, SMK Methodist whitewashed St Teresa from Kuching 6-0 for the title.
Their netball team again thrashed St Teresa 34-3 for their second title.
The boys’ hockey team won the school’s third title when St Thomas’ withdrew.
Seven schools took part in the carnival which also included boys’ football and rugby.
Earlier, in his closing remarks, SMK Methodist principal Yong Choo Tiong said sports as an avenue for students to foster closer relationship and promote unity.
“Winning is not everything — the main objective is to promote better communications among the students,” he added. To the students selected to represent Sarawak in the upcoming national sports carnival, Yong reminded them to train hard and be more consistent.
“Take this as a big challenge and always project a good image of your schools,” he said.
