MP suggests independent prosecutors

PASIR MAS: A MP has suggested that independent prosecutors be appointed to conduct the trial in the event Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is charged for sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

Datuk Ibrahim Ali, independent MP for Pasir Mas (Kelantan), said the prosecutors should not be those from the public service or the Attorney General’s Chambers.

“This can be worked out based on the country’s laws,” he said at a ‘ceramah’ (talk) here last Saturday night.

Anwar, 61, the de facto PKR leader, had lodged a police report against Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan and Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail alleging that they had fabricated evidence against him when he was also charged for sodomy in 1998, and later convicted.

Then, Musa was the senior investigating officer and Abdul Gani the head of the prosecution.

Anwar was freed of the sodomy charge by the Federal Court in 2004.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said yesterday Musa and Gani would not be part of the team investigating the latest sodomy allegation against Anwar.

Ibrahim, in his talk last Saturday night, also said that Anwar’s doctors could observe the taking and testing of Anwar’s DNA sample to ensure impartiality of the process.

Anwar had declined to voluntarily give his DNA sample citing fear of fabrication of the result.

The former deputy prime minister was detained last Wednesday in connection with the sodomy report made against him by Mohd Saiful, 23.

He was taken to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a medical examination and released the following day after he had given a statement at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters.

In Kuantan, Anwar insisted at a ‘ceramah’ last Saturday night in nearby Kampung Razali that he was stripped naked during the medical examination at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital, contrary to a hospital statement that he was not.

DSAI has completed 10yrs jail period for sake of Malaysian law. I salute him on that. This newly publicised sodomised charges against him is totally UMNO political gimmick; not (BARISAN NASIONAL as a whole) to parallised DSAI political pathway to make his comeback into Malaysian politic arena. I personaly do not believed that Barisan National base component parties(MP’S) from Sabah and Sarawak representatives will agree with the alegation.
Don’t simply assumed that those in Barisan Nasional are involved, no such thing. I see the case in this way; if Mohd Saiful have been doing the right thing, why should he has to wait until after 10yrs to make such report? Then, as DSAI was released due to unsufficient evidence and so forth, why let Saiful be freed without investigation to the truth and prove? My conclusion then is, that our law is now in the hand of those with executive power such as our PRIME MINISTER. This was made known by our ex PM Tun M.
As was Tun M said, those in power can do anything he wanted to. So, I deeply hope that no matter who will be the next PM, please do revised the TUN title for sake of the Malaysian peoples.
