Forty teams expected at volleyball competition

MIRI: Forty teams are expected to take part in the Third Annual Miri Beach Volleyball Challenge at the beach side of Parkcity Everly Hotel here on July 26 and 27.

So far, 30 teams, including a number of expatriate sides, have confirmed taking part in the two-day knockout competition.

All teams must have at least one female player.

“The event has been receiving good response since it was introduced in 2006,” organising chairman Vider Suwoh said.

The entry fee is RM45 for teams with Malaysian and non-Malaysian players and RM60 for all-Malaysian teams. Entries close on July 20.

The champion will receive RM1,500 while the runner-up and third placer RM1,000 and RM500.

The top three teams will also receive a trophy each and Milo hampers sponsored by Nestle Products.

The event is organised by Parkcity Everly Hotel in collaboration with the Sarawak State Sports Council, the Miri Volleyball Association and the Miri Youth and Sports Department while the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) is the main sponsor.

Assistant Minister of Infrastructure Development and Communication Lee Kim Shin is expected open the competition and give away the prizes.
