SIBU: A total of 15 meet records were set up in the Inter-Primary and Secondary Schools Swimming Competition at the Bukit Lima pool here yesterday.

Alex Tiong Sie Hung (boys C) from SJK Tung Hua, Ngu Jiung We (boys D) from SJK Chung Sing and Nita Wong Zhi Yi (girls B) from SM Catholic High broke three records each and were named best swimmers in their categories.

Tiong set records in the 100m freestyle (1:04.63), 50m backstroke (33.97) and 100m backstroke (1:13.22), Ngu in the 200m Individual Medley (2:59.43), 50m backstroke (42.17) and 100m backstroke (1:25.49) and Wong in the 50m backstroke (35.12), 100m backstroke (1:17.42) and 200m backstroke (2:48.78).

Kimberley Lau (girls D) from SJK Chung Sing also created records in the 100m backstroke (1:26.65) and 50m backstroke (39.04) and was named best swimmer in her section.

In boys’ A, Eric Tang and Ringo Mah shared top honours with three gold medals each.

Lau Tai Hong from SMK Chung Hua was the best swimmer in boys’ B with three gold medals and one record in the 200m individual medley (2:31.33).

Wong Woan Hui and Christine Liong were joint winners in girls’ A with three gold medals each.

Sharing the best swimmer award in girls’ C were How Xiang Yun and Ong Sing Yu.

SM Catholic High emerged overall champion in secondary category while SJK Chung Sing took the primary category.
