Consistent Magit bags PGC title

KUCHING: Six-handicapper Magit Semong overtook the final day leader Zulkifli Jaraee (handicap 10) to clinch the title of Prison Golf Club (PGC) Club Championship 2008 with a final gross of 207.

The championship, decided over 54 holes, was held over three days — from July 11 to 13.

Defending champion Albert Tanon (handicap 7) looked on course for another victory, finishing day one over 18 holes with a par-for-the-course 64 with Magit second on 67 and Zulkifli third on 71.

After day two, Zulkifli turned in a 138 (36 holes) to head the leader board one stroke ahead of Magit as Albert dropped back third, a stroke further adrift.

On the final day, what appeared to be a three-way tussle quickly faded with Albert slipping further behind the other two contenders.

Magit parred while Zulkifli bogeyed the first hole and as play progressed, Magit proved more consistent, producing two birdies, 12 pars and four bogeys on his way to the title compared with Zulkifli’s 11 pars and seven bogeys.

Rosmaini (186) won the Nett 54 Holes, Phang Ted Hin (150), the Gross 36 Holes while Mohd Fuardy (116), the Nett 36 Holes.
