SIBU: Sibu grabbed the champion’s title in both the boys’ and girls’ category of the Under-14 Volleyball Championship 2008 here yesterday.

Second and third in the boys’ category were Meradong and Kuching respectively.

In the girls’, Mukah and Meradong finished second and third respectively.

Teams from Kuching, Meradong, Limbang, Miri, Mukah, Sibu and Bintulu took part in the tournament organised by Sarawak Volleyball Association (Sava).

It was held to select the state’s U-14 players, for both categories, to compete in the national-level championship.

The players picked for the boys’ category yesterday were Daniel Chuo Sing Ming from Limbang, Law Yew Thean (Kuching), Roger Wee Han Siang (Kuching), from Meradong: Ling Mew Ing, Lee Kuok You, Lee Kuok Leong and Kevin Kiung Se Haur, from Sibu: Goh Wei Feng, Ngu Haw Kin, Ting We Huat, Kenny Wong Se Nguong, Phan Wei Phai and Wong Sing Ping.

Meanwhile for the girls’, the selected players were from Mukah: Belinda Chan Hui Ping and Mary Loria Kong Ming, from Sibu: Stephanie Law Feng Nie, Nurhusnah Hasnan, Kong Chen Chen, Shelley Wong Yu Ning, Agatha Wa Siew Weng, Jacquelin Tan Jun Yan, Ling Jy Rong, Ching Hui Qin, Tina Tiong Yong Ting and Carol Mah Chin Ung.

Sava deputy president Dr Gregory Hii was among those who attended the event.
