MIRI: Kuching made a clean sweep in the State-level futsal championship held at Miri Indoor Stadium here on Sunday when they took the men’s and women’s titles.

In the men’s final, Kuching defeated Kota Samarahan 2-1 while the women thrashed Limbang 3-0.

First runners-up in the men’s category were Kota Samarahan. Third were Miri, beating Betong 1-0.

Miri again secured third place, this time in the women’s after defeating Kota Samarahan 3-0.

Champions in both categories walked away with RM1,000, first runners-up RM800, second RM500 and third RM300.

Each winning team also received medals and trophies.

Top scorer in the women’s category was Noor Fazlina Jek from Sarikei while in the men’s, Abang Zikri Abg Kibrawi from Betong won the award.

It was double joy for both as they were also named the championship’s best players.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam was on hand to give away the prizes.

Winning teams will represent Sarawak at the national-level to be held sometime in October this year.

The championship was organised by Ministry of Social Development and Urbanisation with the cooperation of Sarawak Women Football committee, Football Association of Sarawak, Miri Resident’s office and Miri Football Association.

A total of 22 futsal teams from various divisions in the State took part, coming from Kuching, Kota Samarahan, Sri Aman, Sarikei, Mukah, Sibu, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang.
