Miri duo for world junior golf in US

MIRI: Dianne Luke Jia Zhen and her brother Daniel Teck Jin, both Miri Golf Club and Sukma elite team members, will compete against the world’s best at the Callaway Junior World Championship from July 14 to 18 in San Diego, USA.

This is the third year junior golfers from Miri will be participating in a world championship of such stature.

Dianne and Daniel, aged 17 and 16, have trained under several golf pros in Miri.

Dianne (handicap one) had achieved a good result in the Sabah Golf and Country Club Amateur Championship. She has completed her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and will be going for further studies in the US.

Daniel, a SMK St Columba student, has a handicap of seven.

He had played in several national competitions, including the TSM Championship in Kuala Lumpur.

The Callaway Junior World Championship will be his first competition outside Miri.

Miri Golf Club captain Datuk Jimmy Lau thanked all concerned for giving the duo the opportunity to compete in the Callaway Championship.

“I hope they will inspire more juniors from Miri to train hard for the chance to compete at the world level,” he said at a gathering for the two players yesterday.

Also present were Dianne’s parents Daniel-Joseph Luke and Ann Tay.
