SANTUBONG: The younger generation has been told to be more active in their respective associations to sharpen their leadership talents.

Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Fadillah Yusuf said part from that their participation would help associations to identify talented young leaders or developing them into future leaders.

Fadillah, who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth chief, said the participation of youths should also be encouraged to ensure continuity of their associations.

The success of each association demanded the spirit of comradeship and cooperation from all levels be enhanced, he said when opening the annual general meeting of Persatuan Golf Amatur Bumiputera Sarawak (PGABS) at Kelab Golf Damai here yesterday.

Fadillah, who is also PGABS president and Petra Jaya MP said, “The encouraging success achieved by PGABS is the foundation of its future agenda.”

He said as PGABS was active, more people would want to join the association.

PGABS had now had 315 members, he added.

The AGM is also the prelude to Piala Presiden 2008 golf tournament prize presentation ceremony.

A total of 100 people participated in the event where Khairudin Ibrahim emerged champion and Daniel Yeo (second) and Lokman Jaafar (third) in the net category.

In the gross category, Mohamad Yusri emerged winner while Abdul Rahim (second) and Sukri Moshidi (third).

In the VIP categroy, Fadillah showed his prowess when he beat Datu Sapuan Anu to second placing with Ahmad Suut in third.
