Victim believed to have hung himself from ceiling before string broke

KUCHING: A couple and their children were on their way home from a picnic in Matang when the wife felt ‘uneasy’ all of a sudden and decided to check out her sister’s house located at Jalan Sultan Tengah/Jalan Singai at Mile 9, Matang.

TRAGIC END: Police carrying the body out of the house for a post-mortem.

This led to the discovery of her brother-in-law’s body in his living room at 4pm yesterday in what is believed to be a suicide.

Upon entering the house, she saw the deceased, believed to be in his early 40s, lying on the sofa.

It was said that he had hung himself from the ceiling fan with a string, after standing on a chair placed on top of the table before placing his neck in the loop.

The string broke causing the body to land on the sofa.

The sister-in-law called the police and Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPVs) rushed to the scene to investigate.

The police found a few cans of beer and some medicines on the verandah. The body was sent to Sarawak General Hospital for a postmortem.

One of the deceased’s neighbours said the man had quarrelled with his pregnant wife two days earlier.

Following the quarrel, the wife brought three of their children to Sarikei.

The main cause of the incident was still unknown and police are investigating.
