MIRI: A businessman was fined a total of RM3,600 in default one month and 26 days of imprisonment by the magistrates’ court here yesterday for selling text translation of the Quran without acknowledgement patches.
The six Qurans with text translation sheets were without approval from Al-Quran Text Printing Licensing and Control Board (LPPPTAQ).
All the text translation page sheets in the Holy Books were found without acknowledgment patches issued by LPPPTAQ on each page of the printed text sheets as required under Section 12(3) of the Al-Quran Text Printing Act 1986 (Amended) 1998 and it is an offence under Section 13(1) and punishable under Section 13(2) of the same Act.
Magistrate Fazira Azlina Mohd Rolfi ordered the exhibits to be forfeited and to be disposed of by Home Ministry.
Suhaili L, 44, of Jalan Melayu, here, was convicted on his own guilty plea to all the six charges filed under Section 12(3) of the Al-Quran Text Printing Act 1986 (Amended) 1998, an offence under Section 13(1) of the same Act, and punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act.
The Section provides with fine of not more than RM5,000 or two years’ imprisonment or with both.
He committed all the six offences at 11.25am on Aug 9, 2007 in his shop premise in Jalan Melayu here.
The accused paid the fine.
