Police arrest 24-year old suspect from home

KUCHING: A 24-year-old man was arrested by police yesterday afternoon on suspicion of attempting to rape his neighbour’s daughter.

The suspect was picked up from his house at old Jalan Airport around 1pm by a team of CID officers and taken to the Simpang Tiga police station for further investigation after the girl’s father lodged a police report the day before.

According to a police report lodged by the girl’s father the day before, the incident allegedly took place of Tuesday afternoon while the girl’s labourer father was away at work.

In his report he said he rushed home when he received a call from a friend around 3pm informing him that his neighbour had attempted to rape his 10-year-old daughter.

But by the time he reached home, the suspect had fled from the area.

The father subsequently lodged a report at the Kota Sentosa police station.

In an unrelated matter, a woman lodged a police report on Tuesday alleging she had been forced to work as a prostitute by her boyfriend over the past eight years without receiving any pay.

Originally from Pahang, the woman, in her late 20s, arrived here in 2000 to be with her boyfriend, but was soon asked to become a prostitute at a budget hotel in the city.

For reasons unknown, she ran away from the man last month and sought refuge at a friend’s in Kenyalang Park.

Her boyfriend, however, managed to track her down on Tuesday and tried to convince her to go back with him.

When she refused, he allegedly pointed what appeared to be a pistol at her and made verbal threats against her before driving off from the scene.

Police are investigating the incident.
