ROS’ continued silence said to cause confusion on the ground

KUCHING: The Registrar of Societies (ROS) has been urged to speed up its decision to resolve matters pertaining to Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS).

Datuk Sng Chee Hua’s faction vice president, Ernest Chua said such move was essential for clearing up doubts at the grassroots level as well as party members.

“What we want is a black and white from ROS. We urge ROS to come up with a speedy decision since its officers have been investigating both sides.

“In the meantime, the State’s top leader has recently hinted that the next parliamentary election would likely be held after Hari Raya Aidilfitri, which can be anytime at the end of October.

“Also, it’s not fair for 40,000 members who are waiting for an answer all this while. They (members) all want Sng (Chee Hua) to be the president, they support him,” he told a news conference at the party’s headquarters at Green Heights here yesterday.

Chua said ROS must come to a speedy decision as soon as possible in order not to further confuse the ground support, particularly when the general polls could take place anytime this year.

Responding to Dato Sri Dr James Masing, president of the other PRS faction, who on Sunday said the people were still behind him, Sng’s faction vice president George Lagong said Masing “needs to do his homework”.

“He (Masing) claimed that he has grassroots support and I can tell that this is mainly for urban people’s consumption. But in the longhouse…he needs to do his homework. I know it well because I come from the constituency he represents,” he said.

Pointing out that Sng’s faction had its triennial delegates conference (TDC) in March, George was confident that the faction gained more than 70 per cent of the ground support throughout the State.

“We are still waiting for ROS’s reply,” he said.
